Cure Back Pain

Sciatica

Sciatica is a general term used to describe radiating pain in the legs, caused by a nerve problem in the lower back. Sciatic pain (sciatic nerve pain) is often felt in combination with lower back pain. The sciatic nerve is the largest and longest nerve in the body. It runs from the sacral back region down both legs. There are many branches that come off the main nerves, serving both sensory and motor functions of the buttocks, legs and feet.

The actual medical diagnosis of sciatic pain is called radiculopathy. This diagnosis means that there is some problem in the spine, compressing the radicular nerve root. This nerve root joins into the sciatic nerve.

Pinched Sciatic Nerve?

A common misconception about this condition is that something in the back is “pinching” the sciatic nerve directly. This is anatomically impossible, since the sciatic nerve does not actually meet the spine. Instead, nerve roots from the spine branch out, and join up with the sciatic nerve further down the body. It is the compression of one of these nerve roots, that causes the symptomatic effects on the sciatic nerve

Sciatica or Not?

There are 2 conditions that are often mistaken for sciatica, since their symptoms are very similar:

* Piriformis Syndrome

* Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction

Experience with Sciatic Pain

I suffered from sciatic pain and chronic lower back pain, for many years. The sciatic pain symptoms got worse as I got older. It got to the point where my legs were tired, painful and weak most of the time. The only chance I had to be free of the sciatic pain symptoms, was when they were eclipsed by acute lower back pain. It is true ! Sometimes my lower back pain was so severe, it actually completely overpowered the nagging sciatica pain! The 2 problems working together made me a miserable person, and full of fear for my future. I am so relieved to know that a cure is available, and I was lucky enough to find it.
